Who this is for

You've either been burned before — a company that quoted SAR 100 on the phone and SAR 700 once inside your house — or you're new to Riyadh, unfamiliar with how the service market works here, and you want to know how to find someone legitimate before you have a problem. Both situations are common, and this is for both.

The most common ways people get burned

The phone-quote bait-and-switch

A company quotes SAR 80 for an AC repair over the phone. The technician arrives, opens the outdoor unit, and "discovers" multiple additional problems — bringing the total to SAR 700. You're now in a position where your AC is open, the technician is in your home, and you feel pressure to agree. This is not accidental. The low phone quote gets them in the door. The "discovery" of problems once inside is the profit mechanism.

The "free inspection" trap

A company advertises a free inspection or a very low visit fee — SAR 20 or 30. The technician does a brief look and then produces a high-pressure repair quote. The "inspection" was never a real diagnosis. A genuine AC diagnostic visit costs SAR 89 and takes 15–30 minutes of actual work with pressure gauges, a multimeter, and a clamp meter. Anything significantly cheaper is not a real diagnosis.

The unregistered individual

Available immediately, very cheap, reached via WhatsApp only, no website, no address — just a mobile number. This isn't always a scam, but when something goes wrong, you have no formal recourse. No address to write to, no company to file a complaint against, no insurance if they damage your property. For a SAR 99 filter clean the risk may be acceptable. For a SAR 1,500 compressor repair or a SAR 3,000 painting project, the lack of accountability is a real problem.

Starting work before showing you a quote

The technician begins opening components before presenting a written quote. You feel you have to agree because work has already started. This is deliberate. The rule is simple: no work starts before you have seen, understood, and agreed to a written quote with a specific price for specific work.

How to verify a company in 5 minutes

Step 1: Ask for the Commercial Registration number. Every legitimate business in Saudi Arabia has a CR number. Verify it on mc.gov.sa — enter the number and confirm it matches the company name. Rahat's CR number is 7004316456. We put it on every invoice and at the bottom of our website.

Step 2: Check for VAT registration. VAT registration requires a business to be above a minimum revenue threshold. A VAT-registered company can issue proper tax invoices. Our VAT number is 311315640300003.

Step 3: Check Google Business reviews properly. Look for: reviews that describe specific experiences (not just "great service!"), how the company responds to negative reviews (defensiveness = red flag, acknowledgment + resolution = good sign), review volume (200+ reviews with 4.5–4.8 average is more meaningful than 12 five-star reviews), and recency (reviews from 3 years ago don't reflect today's service quality).

Step 4: Ask these questions before booking. "What is your CR number?" — answered immediately. "Will you give a written quote before starting?" — must be yes. "What's your warranty on the work?" — at minimum 30 days. "Do your technicians carry ID badges?" — yes only. "What payment methods do you accept?" — legitimate businesses accept card and digital payment.

lightbulb

A note on price: The cheapest quote is not automatically the worst option, and the most expensive is not automatically the best. What you're evaluating is: Is the scope clearly defined? Is the price fixed? Is there a warranty? Is the company accountable? A SAR 99 AC clean from a CR-registered, VAT-registered company with 200+ Google reviews beats a SAR 60 clean from someone with only a WhatsApp number.

Rahat passes every item on this checklist.

CR registered · VAT registered · Written quotes always · ID badges · 30-day warranty · Card and digital payment.

Common questions

How do I verify a home maintenance company in Saudi Arabia?add
Ask for their CR number and check on mc.gov.sa. Require a written quote before any work starts. Ask to see the technician's ID. All of this should be immediate and easy for any legitimate company.
What are the red flags of a dishonest AC company?add
Quote changes dramatically on arrival. Starts work before written quote. Can't provide CR number. No technician ID badge. Free inspection with high-pressure quote. Cash only with no receipt. Quotes gas refill without asking your refrigerant type.
What is a fair price for an AC diagnostic visit in Riyadh?add
SAR 89 is standard for a genuine diagnostic that includes pressure gauge testing, capacitor check, and temperature differential measurement. Significantly cheaper usually means no real diagnosis. The SAR 89 should be credited against the repair cost if you proceed.
Should I get multiple quotes for home maintenance work?add
For large jobs — full villa painting, major repairs — yes, 2–3 written quotes with identical scope. For standard service visits (AC cleaning, gas refill), focus on verifying the company is registered and the quote is in writing.
What questions should I ask before booking?add
What's your CR number? Are you VAT registered? Will you give a written quote before starting? What's your warranty? Do technicians carry ID? What payment methods do you accept? A trustworthy company answers all immediately and without irritation.
